Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the club - are part of the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they start the search of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
